we are what we make

Seriously riveting talk about Synthetic Aesthetics collaborator Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg about the future of synthetic biology and how it may change the way we make, use and adapt to our products. Although using biotechnology to grow our tools seems inherently sustainable, it doesn't always mean it's the best idea. As this technology advances, Ginsberg discuss the paradigm shifts it will begin to affect in the design process, as we must begin to reconsider design not as making things that are good for us, but are good for us as well as the product itself. How will these organisms evolve in their environments? What will be the appropriate way to dispose of them or reuse them? And as the gap closes between what we are made of and what we are making, how will our relationships with our products change?
