The danger with speculative design and contextual thinking is that you often get stuck in your own head. I've been wrestling with a lot of ideas surrounding synthetic biology, contemplating all kinds of possibilities and consequences on both personal and societal terms. Now that the time is rolling around to start drafting this dissertation, I need to pinpoint an angle within a more specific area of discussion – I need a mission.
Here are some maps I've made illustrating the different territories within biotechnology that I've been looking into, how they are all connected, and their contextual weight regarding social, cultural, emotional, political, ecological and institutional implications. Hopefully this will help me analyse how my varying interests interplay and begin to extract some of the key points I want to make with this dissertation.
